Grateful Dead

* Actief: 1965-1995

Amerikaanse psychedelische rock band geformeerd in 1965 en actief tot 1995
In 1964 -aanvankelijk- geformeerd als The Warlocks
Kent jarenlang dezelfde stabiele bezetting
Wordt vanwege hun experimenten met verschillende muziekstijlen en live reputatie wel gezien als de ultieme jamband

De kernleden waren Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart en Ron "Pigpen" McKernan
De band kreeg een grote en toegewijde fanbase die bekend staat als "Deadheads" die hen jarenlang op tournee volgden
De improvisatorische benadering van muziek van Grateful Dead en hun iconische live optredens maakten hen anders dan andere bands van hun tijd

Ondanks het overlijden van verschillende leden, blijft hun nalatenschap generaties muziekliefhebbers beïnvloeden en hun muziek blijft tijdloos
